Obituary for Steven S. Hulbert

Steven Schaar Hulbert 52, a longtime resident of the Skagit Valley died in Bellingham, WA on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. He was born in Mount Vernon, WA on July 17, 1965 to Robert J. & Patricia M. Hulbert. Steve grew up on Fir Island and attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Conway School. Steve graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1984. Steve went on to study at Washington State University and in 1988 graduated and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a major in Marketing and a minor in Economics.
After graduating from college Steve moved to California to work for Hertz Equipment Rental. After 5 years Steve returned to the Skagit Valley and made his home on Fir Island. Steven married Rosa Maria Pedroza in Mount Vernon, WA on August 9, 1997. The couple settled on Fir Island where they raised their family.
Steve was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight & member of the Knights of Columbus. Steve was a member of the WA State Farm Bureau. Steve was a WSU Alumni Association Life Member and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity Alumni (2/18/85 - #1125 Alpha Gamma). Steve’s professional career span almost 3 decades starting with the family farm moving into sales, management and service. Steve’s final employment was with PAPÉ Material Handling in Parts/Service in Bellingham, WA.
Steve loved the beauty and calm of the water. He found joy and happiness fishing, hunting, riding his Harley and especially crabbing with his family and friends. Steve had a great smile and infectious laugh that was seen and heard at numerous family gatherings. His thoughtfulness and generosity was shared far beyond family and friends. The love Steve had for his son’s was endless. He taught them to be “true to your word” and “always leave things better than when you found them”. Steve could be heard and seen at every sporting event, school play, archery tournament and pinewood derby race that his sons were participating in. Steve was LCHS’s biggest fan. We want to thank all of his co-workers at the PAPÉ Bellingham Store for all their efforts; you will be in our prayers.
Our hearts are broken; we will cling to each other and wrap ourselves in our memories of Steve.
Steve is survived by his wife Rosa Maria Hulbert of 20 years and their sons, James S., Steven H. Hulbert, Adam F. (Carrie) & Joshua W. Rees.
