On February 17, 2018 Sandy passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter Charlene Van Alstine with her husband Keith, daughter Robin Potter and Sandy’s wife, Peg McDaniel.
Sandy also left behind her six grandchildren, who were a great source of pride and joy to her: Justin Kimball, Garrett Potter (Sera), Kevin Kimball, Jeffrey Potter, Samantha Potter and Meghan Kimball.
Sandy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, a lifelong love of reading and sports including football and baseball, as well as vacationing at the ocean.
Sandy was born April 14, 1945 in Los Angels, CA to Dottie and Charles Martin. She was raised in southern California until she married and started a new life in Everett, WA in 1964. She began her career at West Coast Telephone, which later became G.T.E. She became a shop steward for IBEW Local 89 in 1971 and chief shop steward in 1977. In 1983 she became unit chair for the local, as well as business representative. In 1990 Sandy was elected business manager for Local 89 and continued in this role until she returned back to G.T.E. in the year prior to her retirement in 1996.
One of her proudest accomplishments was being presented the Glass Ceiling award in the early 1990’s from the mayor of Everett. She was admired by many for her intelligence, kindness, compassion and devotion to her career.
Sandy chose to begin another career after retirement from G.T.E. and went to work for First Transit in 2001 and was also served as a shop steward for the Amalgamated Transit Union. She retired in 2014.
