Obituary for Michael L. Minor

Mr. Michael L. Minor 77, a long time, active resident of Skagit Valley died in Burlington on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018. He was born in Mount Vernon on June 19, 1940 to Felix and Frances Minor. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1958. After high school, he received his BA in Economics from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Mike married Sharon Johnson in Seattle on December 22, 1961.

Mike spent 3 years as a Radar Approach Control Officer in the United States Air Force ending as a First Lieutenant. He transitioned to insurance working up to President of Washington Federal Savings & Loan Association and retiring after 25 years.

Mike was a very active member in the community participating on the board of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Conference Board Administration & Finance, Kiwanis Club, Elks #1604 in Mount Vernon, Boy Scouts of America Troop 1, Civil Service Commission, MV Planning Commission, MV Chamber of Commerce, Mount Vernon COPP, and Highland Games Committee. He received many awards for his services including the Liberty Bell Award, Mayor’s Citizen of the Year Award, Certified Insurance Counselor, Scouting Family of the Year, and Silver Beaver Award from Boy Scouts of America.

Mike enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, Men’s Group at church, social group at Edison Cafe, war films, reading, root beer floats, Necco candies and wafer cookies.

Mike loved his family most of all. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, and three children: Bryan in Montreal, Quebec, Barry and wife, Mariela, in Austin, TX, and Kelli and husband, Ben, in Mount Vernon, WA. He has 7 grandchildren: Emily, Nathan, Wesley, Joshua, Ryan, Ava and Chloe; and 2 great-grandchildren: Madeline and Athena.
Celebration of Life service will be at 3pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church at 1607 E. Division St. Mount Vernon, WA 98273. His urn will be placed at Mount Vernon Cemetery next to his mother and father.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Endowment Fund.
