Obituary for Margaret Jane "Peggy" Swendsen

Margaret (Peggy) Jane Swendsen, longtime resident of Stanwood, Washington passed away at her home “Chicken Acres” on February 28, 2018 at age 69.
She was born June 13, 1948 in Everett, Washington to Elizabeth Taro and Al Bolin. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and graduated from Everett High School, class of 1966. She studied at the University of Washington and Tacoma Community College where she earned her R.N. certification. She worked as a nurse in several medical facilities including Planned Parenthood and Whatcom Skagit Rural Opportunity Council (WSROC), primarily serving the Skagit Valley immigrant community. She went on to earn her nurse practitioner credential (ARNP) through a program of the UW.
In 1979, Peggy opened Stanwood Women’s Clinic, where she attended to the healthcare needs of generations of women, primarily in the Stanwood/Camano Island area. For 37 years, Peggy generously gave of time, skill and compassion. She often warned new patients that her office looked more like an antiques store/gallery than a clinic and that she might be wearing two or three pairs of glasses at any given time. She called herself “Nurse Ratched” and “ Bossypants” and would undoubtedly want to remind readers of this notice to take their vitamin D. She will be terribly missed by the women who were fortunate to have her as their healthcare provider and by countless folks who consider her a “best friend”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Al Bolin, and by her step-father, Bill Griffin.
She is survived by her husband and companion of the past 33 years, Mark Eikeland, her sister Anne Seaholt of Portland, Oregon, her brother David Bolin, Sr., numerous nieces and nephews, and friends she considered family,
A spring celebration of Peggy’s life will be announced at a later date.
