Obituary for Jean A. Hanson

Jean A. (Fender) Hanson passed away May 17, 2018. She was born May 6, 1925 to Henry and Nellie Fender, in Burlington, WA the youngest of 7 children. Jean attended Bayview Elementary School and graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1943. She then attended business college and worked for J. C. Penny Co., Mussers Hardware and Emporium retiring in 1997.

Jean married Elmer A. Hanson on August 4, 1945. The couple farmed on West Whitmarsh Road for a number of years raising strawberries. Elmer passed away on July 6, 1983. Jean was a member of the grange for 66 years joining in 1948. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bowling, baking, and traveling to see grandchildren. She also enjoyed lunch with friends and co-workers.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Judith (Don) Kesselring of Bellingham and a son Marvin of Reno; four grandchildren, Virgil and (Lynsi) Hanson, Marcus Hanson, Marlisa and (Cory) Lawrence, Marla and (Mike) Kendrick, all of Utah and seven great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by three sisters; Vera Bell, Guneath Bell, Glendola Loers; three brothers, Emmet, Neal and Edwin; one infant son; in-laws Hazel and Lee Van Matre, Clarence and Margaret Hanson, Albert Hanson, Donna Moore, and her parents.

Mother kept every card that anyone sent to her. She also had books of quips, quotes and jokes which made her laugh thru the years.

Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Salem Lutheran Church, 2529 N. LaVenture Road, Mt. Vernon, WA 98273 and Hospice of the Northwest, 227 Freeway Dr., Suite A, Mt. Vernon, WA 98273.

There will be no services for Jean. She was laid to rest next to her husband Elmer Hanson in the Burlington Green Hills Cemetery.
