Obituary for Helen Marie Doyle

Helen Marie Doyle passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday June 23rd.
Helen was born October 7, 1927 in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. to Bessie and Louis Curran. She was
number 3 of 6 children.
Helen Graduated from Proviso High School in 1945 where she was very active in girls GAA sports.
After graduation she continued her education at Garfield Park Nursing School. She received her
Registered Nursing degree in 1948. Helen was honored to be a surgical nurse for Dr. Richard Murphy
of Chicago for several years.
One day Helen was called in to take care of a patient who had been in a car accident. He was a very
difficult patient and Helen was the only one that could handle his demanding personality. On April 10,
1953 Helen married her difficult patient, John (Jack) Doyle. They had their first son John J. in 1954.
Late that year they moved from Chicago to Camano Island for a brief time and then to Stanwood. Two
more sons, Kevin and Brian were born. Helen and husband Jack moved up to Burlington in 1958 after
the state purchased their home to make way for highway 532. They welcomed 3 more sons, Martin,
Jim & Tom.
While raising her 6 boys, Helen fostered 36 children through Catholic Services. She received children
just hours old, up to 12 years old, one of which she raised for one year until he was adopted.
Helen also ran her own business for 14 years called “Doyle Distribution Co.” She managed the
distribution of the Skagit Valley Herald through paper boys, many of which were her own sons.
Helen loved to give back to her community and held a seat on the Burlington 'City council for
12 years. She was on several committees during her term and she most enjoyable the Budget
committee. She made sure every department worked to prove why they needed money for their
department. It was very important to her that they be accountable for every dollar they spent because
there were hardworking citizen tax dollars at work.
Helen enjoyed cooking and baking and on Saturdays you could find Helen with her fresh baked pies
and doughnut drops at the Burlington farmers market raising money for the parks department. She felt
very honored when she was asked to be the Grand Marshall of the Berry Dairy days parade in 2013.
Through out the years Helen also enjoyed gardening, tending to the beautiful flowers in her
yard and hosting family gatherings. No one could make homemade macaroni and cheese better than
Helen.
Helen's proudest achievement was her sons. She wanted them to know, “Although sometimes it
wasn't always easy , but it was all worth it. I am so proud of the wonderful men they have become.”
She is preceded in death by her Parents: Bessie and Louis Curran, Sisters: Marilyn Josephsen and Carol
Johnson, Brothers: Eddie and Lew Curran, Husband John J. Doyle IV and her son Martin Doyle. She is
survived by her sister Lois Jeschke, Sons: John J. Doyle V. and girlfriend Julie Williams, Kevin (Carol)
