Obituary for Gene Erwin Clark

Gene E. Clark passed away on September 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, due to complications from an auto accident at the age of 79. Gene was born on July 15, 1938 to Alvy W. and Lois L. (Kerr) Clark in Loveland, Colorado. He was the oldest of four children. At the tender age of six months his family packed up and moved to Skagit Valley, where he lived for most of his life. He attended school in Mount Vernon and Burlington. He left high school to join the Air Force on the buddy system with his cousin Wayne Clark. In the service he earned his GED and later earned his electronics degree at ITT Tech.
Gene operated a gas station in Seattle with his brother Bud before moving back to the Skagit Valley where he worked for Bill Bailey Tires. He worked at March Point refineries and owned and managed the Tree Fort II Tavern. Gene sold his business in 1976 and went to Alaska over the next two years. He worked as a hard rock driller. Upon returning to Skagit County, he worked for Right Way Plumbing and Heating until his retirement.
Gene was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks #1604 and Burlington Eagles #3242. He loved playing shuffleboard, crabbing, camp fires and going to Arizona to visit friends.
Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years Sandra, they were married on November 2, 1968 in Mount Vernon; four children, sons Dwayne (Erin), Ed, Jim and daughter Keri; six grandchildren, Alisha, Rita, Jimmy, Logan (Makayla), Hannah (Jesse), and little Chloe; 4 great-grandchildren, DJ, Alexis and two baby girls on the way; a brother Ken (Loretta) Clark; a sister, Ella (Dick) Mahaffey as well as many nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bud Clark.
Gene’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Burlington Eagles #3242, 119 North Cherry Street, Burlington, WA, 98233, from 2:00PM until 5:00PM and is open to all who would like to attend. Memorials may be given in Gene’s memory to the Allison D. Clark Scholarship Fund at Skagit Bank in Sedro-Woolley.
