Obituary for Elinor Louise Curry

Elinor Louise Blaney Curry, 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on October 4th after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Curry was born in Mount Vernon to parents Ruth and Bert Blaney, and lived there for much of her life. She and husband Don also resided in other locations such as the San Francisco Bay area, Tacoma, and Kent. They moved back to Skagit County in the 1990’s.

Elinor was a graduate of Washington State University, and enjoyed rooting for the Cougar football team, in good seasons and bad, over the years. Professionally Elinor was primarily involved with community service agencies and youth development organizations, serving at various times as an Executive Director. She also worked for several years as an office administrator for a technology company in downtown Seattle.

Recreationally, Elinor traveled with her family and camped out extensively throughout the western United States and Canada, traversing the AlCan highway, the Tweedsmuir Park Lakes, and the Bowron Lake chain, among other adventures. She and Don also enjoyed train travel later in life.
Elinor is survived by daughter Karen and her husband Ron, of Renton, and by niece Pam, her husband Haydn, and Pam’s children Graham and Kirsten.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 1:00 pm, at the Mount Vernon First United Methodist Church, 1607 E. Division Street, Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society which provided much-appreciated support to Elinor during her illness.
