Obituary for Bruce Leroy King

Bruce Leroy King, 79, passed away on November 28, 2017 unexpectedly after a short illness. He was a lifetime Skagit Valley resident. He was born October 1, 1938 in Mount Vernon, WA to William and Inez King. He attended Mount Vernon and Stanwood schools. He served in the US Navy for four years (1956-1959) on the US Norton Sound.

Bruce and his brother Gene King owned and operated King Spray Service for many years until Gene’s passing when Bruce took over the business. He took great pride in his business and all the farmers in Skagit and Snohomish. His favorite pastime was to take a ride to look at the fields and worry. After retiring, he liked to have coffee with local farmers at Conway Food at 4-5 AM. He also loved the “Huskies” and his naps.

After selling the business he worked for Skagit Farmers for many years. He loved working! Bruce and Margaret spent 22 winters in Yuma, Arizona. But he was always anxious to get back to spray crops in February and March, depending on the weather. He finally retired at age 75, he so missed not being able to work anymore.

Bruce was a lifetime member of the Elks #1604, VFW #1763 in Yuma and American Legion #19 in Yuma. He was a past Tyee season ticket holder-went to almost all home games and many away games especially in Oregon and California. He loved those “Dawgs” and Coach James! After he gave up tickets and spent winters in Arizona we would watch the games with Fred and Elsie Knutsen and Arnie and Marie Ellen Moores down south. After Fred passed away we would watch with Elsie still. He so enjoyed that. His lifelong friend Bob Mauvais enjoyed playing jokes on him about Husky/ Cougars rivalry. There was nothing better for him to watch his last game. Huskies beat the Cougs! Priceless!

He is preceded in death by his parents; William and Inez, one sister; Marjorie (Ralph) 9 brothers; “Sonny” (Al), Merle, Gene (Ann) , Charles, Cleon, Worthy, Jay, Myron, son; Mike, Rekdal, nephew; George King, niece; Kathy King, mother-in-law, Alma Hanseth, and brother-in-law; Gary Hanseth.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years; Margaret, son; Jim Rekdal, daughters; Lori Bauder Grace (Artie), Lisa Steinman, grandchildren; Amanda Steinman, Nicole (Jordan) Cerati, Michael Bauder and Jayson Steinman and one great granddaughter; Kallie Pierzowski. He is also survived by his sister; Virginia (Willard) Pearson, brother; Roger King, sister-in-law; Ann King, brother-in-law; Bob (Patsi) Hanseth and several nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to a local charity of choice. A celebration of life is planned for January 2018
